The Colombo Fort Magistrate's court today (Oct 25) granted bail to 51 university undergraduates who were arrested during a protest yesterday, while one student was remanded till November 8.
Police had apprehended the students for being a part of an unlawful gathering, during their protest in Colombo, demanding an increase in Mahapola bursaries for state university students.
During a hearing today, court-ordered 51 undergraduates to be released on a cash bail of Rs 100,000.
However, one suspect was remanded since he had been arrested previously and had been warned by court to refrain from engaging in unlawful demonstrations.
