685 kg of Sri Lanka bound ganja seized in TN

Coast Guard personnel today seized 685 kg of ganja, which was found abandoned at the fourth sand dune in the sea off Danushkodi coast. Police said the narcotic was meant to be smuggled to Sri Lanka. The contraband was handed over to the Mandapam Marine police, they added. Earlier this year, Ganja (Cannabis) weighing 1,300 kg and worth over Rs two crore was recovered from a truck near Rajupakala area under Chintapalle police station limits in Visakhapatnam agency area today, official said. “Acting on a tip-off, a special police team was engaged in vehicular checking at a strategic point near Rajupakala area. Noticing the police team, the driver of a truck, parked the vehicle on the side of the road and fled from the scene,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Chintapalle, R Raghavendra Rao told reporters. As many as 34 gunny bags, each bag containing about 40 kg of dry ganja was found in the truck. The DSP said the truck belonged to a person from Golugonda area of Narsipatnam in the district and they have launched investigation to nab the accused in the case. (PTI)
