A vote turnout of around 70 percent was recorded at today's Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election, Galle District Secretary Somarathna Vidhanapathirana said.
Voting for the election began at 7 am and ended at 4 pm across 47 polling booths in 17 electoral wards in the area.
Mr. Vidhanapathirana said no incidents of violence or law violations had been reported during the election, and that the counting process is to begin in a few minutes.
The results of the election are expected to be announced at around 10 pm.
