A 76-year old woman succumbed to death after a lorry had collided with the victim in Navagamuwa last afternoon (Mar 1), police said.
The lorry which was travelling towards Kaduwela along the Athurugiriya-Kaduwela road in the Korathota area had veered off the road after the driver had lost balance, and had subsequently collided with the woman on the pavement.
The victim was rushed to the Athurugiriya hospital following which she was transferred to the Colombo General Hospital for further treatment. However, she had succumbed to her injuries upon admission to the Colombo Hospital.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Nawagamauwa South, Ranala by the name of A.A. Pushpalatha Ranatunga.
The driver of the lorry who was involved in the accident has been taken into police custody.
Navagamuwa police are investigating further into the accident.
