A special Cabinet meeting presided by the President is to be held today (7) to discuss the souring rice prices as well as other essential commodity prices, a Cabinet minister said.
Prices of rice, sugar, powdered milk and gas would be discussed at the meeting.
The meeting was called as the rice millers increased the rice prices after a cabinet decision was taken to revoke the price controls gazette by the Consumer Affairs Authority. Following the price hike in rice, companies which import milk powder and sugar as well as gas distributors too called for price increases.
These matters were to be discussed at a Cabinet meeting held previously, but due to the President not being in the country, it was delayed.
