News

Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara said in Parliament that all plantation workers will be given a special allowance under the World Food Program and World Bank assistance from next month.

The Minister stated the above while participating in the first meeting of the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Labour and Foreign Employment of the third session of the ninth Parliament.

Thus, as per the instructions of the Hon. President, in view of the current economic crisis, the Minister stated that steps will be taken to provide this to the estate workers as well as the urban estate community.

The minister said that in view of the current crisis, measures are being taken to send more workers to countries like Japan, Korea and Israel in a more formal manner. Furthermore, the importance of the public to find out the proper facts correctly was also discussed as there are fraudsters who conduct classes saying that they send workers to countries like Japan.

Two Industrial Disputes (Amendment) Bills and the Termination of Employment of Workmen (Special Provisions) (Amendment) were also considered and the respective approvals were received.
