The night mail trains between Colombo and Badulla have been cancelled today after rail line was blocked after the falling of trees in the Idalgashinna and Ohiya area while a mini-cyclone hit parts of the Badulla district.
Heavy winds across the Badulla district caused heavy damages to houses in the Lunugala, Pasara, Namunukula and Ella areas last night and today morning, residents said.
Several roads including the Passara - Bandarawela road and the Lunugala – Madulseema roads were blocked due to falling of trees.
A woman was injured due to a tree falling on a house in the Hopton estate while branch of tree had had fallen on the Lunugala police check point. The Namunkula Police station too was damage after the winds blew off the roof.
Roofs of houses were also blown off in several areas in the district.
A temporary holiday has been given to around 26 schools due to this mini cyclone.
