Heavy rains, accompanied by lightning have left at least two dead and more than 5000 affected over the past two days, officials said.
One death, due to lightning was reported from the north and another death due to heavy rains in the Uva province.
Several areas including Colombo received heavy rains overnight with several areas and roads underwater.
Several farming lands in the northern and central provinces were underwater.
Parts of the Jaffna town, including the area around Nallur were affected by the rains while several farming areas in the north too have been underwater for a couple of days.
The Meteorological Department has warned of more rains today (1).
