President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed an advisory board to give recommendations and decisions to be taken under the Prevention of Terrorism Act No. 48 of 1979.
Director General (Legal Affairs) of the Presidential Secretariat Harigupta Rohanadheera said the advisory board will be headed by retired Chief Justice Asoka de Silva while retired High Court Judge A.A.R. Heiyanthuduwa and retired Solicitor General Suhada Gamalath have been appointed as members.
The advisory board is to advise the President on investigation, release, granting of bail of those who have been imprisoned and detained under the PTA.
Due to the absence of an advisory board, those who have been imprisoned for a long period of time will now have the opportunity to submit their issues and rights to the advisory board, Mr. Rohanadheera said.
