Agreement to establish a Vocational Training Centre targeting employments in Japan

News

An agreement was reached between Manusha Nanayakkara, Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, and a high-level Japanese diplomatic delegation to establish a Vocational Training Centre in Sri Lanka aimed at employment in Japan's automobile industry.

There is a need to recruit 6.5 million foreign workers for jobs in Japan over the next few years, and views were exchanged on how Sri Lankan workers can contribute to meeting the labour demand.

Those who successfully complete the training at the centre will be eligible for direct employment opportunities in Japan. This initiative is expected to increase job opportunities for Sri Lankan workers in Japan's automobile industry.

The emphasis was on establishing this vocational training centre for employment in Japan as a joint venture between the public and private sectors.

Minister Nanayakkara also expressed his willingness to intervene and support this effort through the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau.

This assurance was given when a Japanese diplomatic delegation led by Fujimaru Satoshi, State Minister of Japan's Cabinet Office, and Yamamoto Kozo, former Minister of State for Overcoming Population Decline and Promoting Local Economy Revitalisation, met with Minister Nanayakkara at the ministry's premises.

Following the establishment of the training centre, the Japanese delegation emphasised the possibility of directly opening job opportunities in Japan for all those who will be trained there.
