The Air Force has ordered an investigation into the death of an airman at the field firing range in Kalpitiya last evening(26).
The airman was attached to the bomb defusing unit and identified as 28 year old Thusitha Lakmal Ranasinghe, a resident of Chilaw.
Initial investigation has revealed that the airman accompanied by another officer was on an inspection visit after a training session.
He was in the process of inspecting a live explosive device which had remained in the firing range, after raining.
