All 17 State Universities in the country will go on a token strike today (November 2) over a number of issues including the pay gap and reduction of funding allocated to Government Universities.
The decision was reached following a meeting that took place on Wednesday (November 1) between the Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA) and the Public Service Trade Union Alliance at the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) at Nawala.
Simultaneously, the Professionals’ Trade Union Collective including the FUTA, Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) and many other trade unions engaged in a protest march on Wednesday (2) challenging the Government’s Arbitrary Tax Policy and PAYE taxes.
