A 38-year-old person suffered injuries after being shot at a housing complex in Borella last night (19).
Police Media Unit said the victim is a resident of Nagalagamveediya, Colombo 14. He had only moved into the housing complex several days ago. He was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.
The victim had been shot with a revolver type weapon by an unidentified assailant who arrived on a motorbike. The assailant had fled the scene after the shooting and remains at large.
A motive for the shooting is yet to be determined. Police though, said the victim was listed as a major drug trafficker and a member of an organised criminal gang. Investigations have revealed that he had been arrested by the Foreshore Police Station on drug trafficking charges and had only been released on bail on February 5.
The victim is currently being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Colombo National Hospital. Borella Police are conducting investigations to arrest suspects involved in the shooting.
