Amendments to the Civil Procedure Code (CPC) and the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) have been forwarded for Cabinet approval and are currently under review Jutice and National Integration Harshana Nanayakkara said.
Once the parliamentary procedures are completed, the amendments are expected to be enacted into law at the earliest opportunity, he said.
The Minister emphasized the importance of these reforms in streamlining the judicial process and enhancing the efficiency of the legal framework.
In the proposed amendments, the accused will have the option to participate in court proceedings remotely through digital audio and video technology, eliminating the need for their physical presence in the courtroom.
Minister Nanayakkara further emphasized that this measure aims to modernize the judicial process, enhance efficiency, and reduce delays in handling cases.
