American iHub, an initiative by the US Embassy in Colombo was declared open by US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie J Chung and Governor of the Eastern Province Senthil Thondaman in Batticaloa yesterday (November 15).
This is the fifth American Space in the country and it is being implemented by Dream Space Academy. The initiative aimed to empower the youth of the Eastern Province, foster knowledge exchange, and promote people-to-people ties between the United States and Sri Lanka, the embassy said.
It will serve as an interactive hub for youth in the Eastern region of the island and be a welcoming environmen where visitors can connect and learn about the United States, the embassy said in a statement.
Soon, workshops on a range of topics from career skills to English language learning; classes and clubs introducing new technologies and academic resources; films, discussions, and lectures on entrepreneurship, and leadership are scheduled to be held to empower local youths in the province.
