Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala has been appointed as Chief of Staff to the President.
Mr Wijepala was private secretary to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake before contesting the recent general election and being elected to Parliament from the Kurunegala District.
He also previously served as the Secretary to the Anti-Corruption Committee Secretariat during the Yahapalana Government.
Minister Wijepala told Timesonline that as Chief of Staff to the President he hopes to carry out functions of the Presidential Secretariat efficiently and smoothly with a minimum number of staff. He said this will be done in line with the government's strategy to save state funds as much as possible.
