Applications called for 25,000 free solar power housing project in North

The process of accepting applications for the twenty-five thousand (25,000) free solar power house projects worth Rs five million each for the Northern Province has reached its final stage, the Northern Governor’s Office said. 

As per the advice of the President, applications for this twenty-five thousand (25,000) housing project to be carried out through the Honorable Governor in the Northern Province are being accepted through District Secretaries and Divisional Secretaries.

Eligible beneficiaries who have not yet applied for this housing scheme are requested to send their applications through the Divisional Secretaries before December 14, the notice issued by the office said. 

The selection of housing scheme beneficiaries by Divisional Secretaries has already started with the directions of the District Secretaries under the direction of the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province.

Accordingly, in the five districts of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya and Mannar, if there are eligible applicants who have not yet applied for this housing scheme, they can immediately submit their applications through their divisional secretariat.

Those who have already been given a housing scheme by the National Housing Authority but it has not been completed, those who have lost land after resettlement, those who have their land but have not yet received a housing scheme and those who are eligible to get a housing scheme in any other way can apply for this special scheme.

Through this new housing scheme, the cluster housing scheme will also be implemented for the landless on government land. Accordingly, 710 sq.ft houses will be constructed for this purpose and and one thousand (1000) square feet of solar panels will be installed on the roofs of these houses. The remaining area will be cemented.

Under this scheme, which is implemented through a foreign private investment company, the electricity produced from the solar panel (SOLAR PANEL) to be installed on the roofs of these twenty-five thousand (25,000) houses, which will be constructed at a cost of 50 lakh rupees each, should be provided to the investment company for twenty (20) years only.

However, no fee for house construction work will be collected from the beneficiaries. Therefore, those who have not yet submitted their applications for this scheme are requested to submit their applications through the Divisional Secretariats immediately, the office stressed in a statement.
