Former United National Party (UNP) Member of Parliament Arjuna Ranatunga has informed party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe that he has decided to quit the party in the absence of any plan to overcome immediate and future challenges.
In a letter addressed to the party leader and copies to the Secretary, Deputy Leader, and the Assistant Leader of the party he has said that he had decided to remain with the party despite the setback suffered at the 2020 election because he believed that a plan will be drawn to meet future challenges.
Last year Mr Ranatunga quit from the Gampaha district UNP organiser position.
Mr Ranatunga quit the UPFA and obtained membership of the UNP in order to support the United National Front during the 2015 Presidential Election.
Mr Ranatunga has not announced his future plans.
