A group of armed robbers who stormed a house in Eechankulam, Vavuniya last night have badly assaulted the inmates and fled after robbing cash and gold jewellery worth Rs. 1 million, police said.
About eight persons had stormed the house last night carrying clubs and after assaulting the inmates, they had fled with cash and gold jewellery.
A 58-year-old male inmate of the house had sustained serious injuries during the robbery and he has been admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital for treatment.
Police have also deployed sniffer dogs at the crime scene to try and track the suspects and investigations are ongoing.
