Two persons were killed and seven others were injured when a van toppled in the Habaraketiya area of Meemure in the Ududumbara Police area last evening.
The condition of three persons injured are serious, hospital sources said.
An injured person said that the driver had shouted out that the breaks were not functioning, just before the accident.
Police said that the accident had taken place in a remote area, about 25 km away from the police.
