A 47-year-old man has died under tragic circumstances in Wariyapola after being electrocuted by a wire that had been laid illegally to hunt wild animals.
The victim, a resident of Galayaya, Waduressa, had left home on Sunday to fish in the nearby tank. As he had not returned, a search was carried out, whereupon his body had been found floating in the tank yesterday.
A post-mortem inquiry conducted at the Kurunegala Hospital had revealed that the victim had been electrocuted.
Subsequent police investigations had found that the victim had been electrocuted from current that had leaked into the water from a wire laid illegally near the tank to hunt for wild animals.
A resident of Waduressa has been arrested by police on suspicion of laying the wire. Wariyapola Police are investigating.
