The average island wide voter turnout exceeded 50 per cent by 2.30 p.m. as polling continued in the Local Government elections, without major incidents.
The turnout in the Colombo district was around 45 per cent while Kalutara, Matara,Kegalle, Ratnapura,Anuradhapura, Digamadulla, Polonnaruwa also was between 45 to 50 per cent by 2.00 p.m
A high turnout was reported from the Mannar district with the turnout exceeding 55 per cent by 1.30 p.m.
However in the Gampaha district the turnout was still around 40 per cent at 1.30 p.m.
Polls opened at 7.00am and will close at 4.00pm.
Voting is being conducted in a peaceful atmosphere and no major incident of election violence or election law violation has been reported so far.
