A baby elephant has been electrocuted by a wire illegally drawn to protect a manioc cultivation in the Galkiriyagama area, wildlife officials said.
The elephant, believed to be between five to seven years has been roaming around this area for the past two years, according to residents.
The manioc had been planted in a land belonging to the Forest Department with the objective of illegally acquiring the land.
The electricity wire had been drawn from the farmers house about 300 meters to the land.
