A special commissioner has been appointed to implement powers and perform functions of the Badulla Municipal Council from today (10) after its activities were temporarily suspended.
An extraordinary gazette notification has been issued in this regard by the Governor of Uva province A.J.M. Muzammil.
Accordingly, H.M. Jeevantha Herath who is a Sri Lanka Administrative (Grade I) officer will be appointed as special commissioner starting from today.
H.M.R. Anura Kumara, a retired judicial officer has also been appointed to investigate and report to the Governor within the duration of three months over the dispute between the Mayor of the Badulla Municipal Council and Council members.
The gazette issued by the Governor said the judicial officer has powers of a Commissioner appointed under the Investigation Commission Act regarding the above investigation.
