Mrs.Sarah Hulṭan, British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka met President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today (04) at the Presidential Secretariat.
While commending the Government for its efforts to control the Corona epidemic, the High Commissioner commented on the possible assistance to the vaccination process. The High Commissioner also drew attention to the contribution the British Government can make towards the President's efforts to build a trade economy.
Ms. Sarah Hulton agreed to exchange technical knowledge and assist in the storage and transmission of solar energy required by the Government to obtain 80% of the country's energy generation from renewable energy sources by 2030.
The British High Commissioner commended the President's decision to protect the environment by focusing on the use of organic fertilizers. The government plans to increase the 'forest cover' from 20.8% to 30%. The High Commissioner also sought to provide the necessary knowledge and methods.
The President requested British technical assistance to study the damage caused to the environment by the X-Express Pearl. Elaborating on the Geneva resolution, the President explained the steps taken by the government on other issues, including resolving land issues.
British High Commission First Secretary Andrew Price, Chief Adviser to the President Lalith Weeratunga, and Foreign Secretary Admiral Jayanath Colombage was also present.
