The Third Reading of the Appropriation Bill 2025 (Budget 2025) was passed in Parliament a short while ago by a majority of 114 votes.
A total of 159 MPs voted for the Budget while 45 voted against.
The result brought to a close a parliamentary process that began on February 17 with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake delivering his Budget Speech to Parliament in his capacity as Minister of Finance. The Second Reading of Budget 2025 commenced on February 18 and continued till February 25. The Second Reading was passed by a majority of 109 votes, with 155 votes in favour and 46 against.
The Committee Stage Debate of Budget 2025 commenced on February 27 and continued for 19 days till today.
