The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) has been entrusted with the investigations into the incident where two unidentified gunmen opened fire at a vehicle in which former National Lotteries Board Working Director Thusitha Halloluwa was traveling and got away with a file of documents, in the Narahenpita area last night, Police Media Spokesman SSP Buddika Manathunga said.
He said that though no one was injured in the shooting, Mr Halloluwa and another person accompanying him have admitted themselves to the hospital claiming they were assaulted.
The two men following the vehicle on the motorcycle had blocked the vehicle before opening fire causing damage to the windscreen, SSP Manathunga said.
The shooting took place around 8.00 pm on the circular road, off Evergreen Park road near Kings Hospital after Mr Halloluwa visited his lawyer and was returning in a Jeep.
A police officer at the scene said according to eyewitness reports three persons were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
One of the persons accompanying Mr Hallouluwa was his lawyer.
Mr Halloluwa was recently granted bail by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court in a case where he is charged with the alleged misuse of a computer and a mobile phone issued to him during his tenure as Acting Director of the National Lotteries Board (NLB).
He was released on two surety bails of Rs. 200,000 each and imposed an overseas travel ban preventing him from leaving the country.
Mr Halloluwa earlier served in several ministries . He initially worked with the late Minister Amarasiri Dodangoda and then worked in the SLFP office.
He was also a Public Relations officer of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
