The CCTV surveillance in Colombo has successfully identified 675 vehicles involved in traffic offenses, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Indika Hapugoda said.
Starting February 1, these offenders will face fines, signaling a move in the direction of more technologically enhanced policing.
The new CCTV surveillance system, which went into effect on January 22, intends to reduce traffic offences in Colombo.
The city is equipped with a comprehensive system of 108 strategically placed cameras, which aids authorities in monitoring and identifying traffic offenders.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
