The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested two suspects who allegedly ran a racket that supplied fake PCR test reports for those leaving for overseas.
The suspects had made fake PCR reports forging the letterhead and QR code of a leading private hospital in Colombo that does legitimate PCR testing.
According to investigators the fake PCR test reports issued by the racket had then been given to buyers who would then produce them at the airport when leaving for overseas. These reports had even been uploaded to the Health Ministry's database by officials who had been unable to detect the forgeries.
The suspects had been engaged in the racket for some time and the CID believes they have issued as many as 600 fake PCR test reports prior to the racket being busted.
The suspects are due to be produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court today.
