The Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) yesterday (November 16) disclosed that a raw food supplier who refused to repay overpaid allowance by the Angoda National Institute of Mental Health whilst declaring bankruptcy, was acting as a supplier to another agency of the Ministry of Health (MoH).
The COPA advised the health officials to prepare a strategic framework to collect arrears due from the suppliers who have not paid up the relevant arrears without protecting them.
They were further questioned about the failure to utilize the fingerprint machines purchased by the MoH disbursing Rs. 31.8 Million in accordance with the Public Administration Circular of 2017, to confirm the arrival and departure of staff.
The COPA Chair Lasantha Alagiyawanna also emphasized that health services should also join the measures that were taken to make public service more efficient and corruption-free.
