With another 204 deaths reported on Thursday (2), the country's total COVID fatalities increased to 9,604, the Health Ministry said.
Majority of yesterdays’ deaths (149) were those above 60 years of age. Fifty people between 30 and 59 have died from the virus and another five under the age of 30.
Army Commander General Shavendra Silva on Thursday announced the commencement of vaccination for those between 20 to 30 years. Close to four million people in the above age group will be administered the vaccine at district level.
Meanwhile, 3619 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 with majority from the Western province.
