Director General of the National Institute of Education (NIE), Sri Lanka, Professor Prasad Sethunga, told the Sunday Times that the NIE is already working on creating activity books for Grade 1 students and modules for Grade 6 and 10 students, aiming to introduce the new education reform starting in January 2025.

We are implementing activity books for the Grade 1 and modules for the grade 6 and 10 students, according to our own education principles” stated professor Seythunga.

Starting with these grades, educationists plan to implement the reform in other phases for the remaining grades as well. The long-term vision of this new education reform is to update and modernize the curriculum to better align with global educational standards, focusing on critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
