The cabinet has given the green light for female workers to engage in night shifts in offices.
The meeting to amend the Shops and Office Workers (Regulation of Employment and Remuneration) Act No. 19 of 1954 which was held on August 8 was approved today.
Female employees are now able to engage in night shifts in offices where business activities are carried out based on information technology, knowledge outsourcing establishments, establishments obtaining the business process from outside, and the offices performing accounts, administration and technical activities for business establishments overseas.
The proposal was submitted by Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara.
