The Cabinet of Ministers has repealed the decision taken by the previous government to transfer Nuwara Eliya Post Office and its premises to the Urban Development Authority and instead to modify the building and the land to increase to make it a tourist attraction and generate new revenue generation paths.
In 2024, a decision was taken to transfer the colonial period Nuwara Eliya Post Office Building to the UDA but the move was met with objections by postal unions.
The NPP government said it will implement a project to retain the building for the activities of the Department of Posts while utilizing it for tourism promotion activities.
