Car hit by train at Pangiriwatta, woman serious

A couple on their way for a religious event in Dimbulagala early today was caught up in a railway accident in Pangiriwatta, Nugegoda when their vehicle was hit by a train at the level crossing, Police said.

The condition of the woman, identified as Sandareka Dilini, was serious.

Resdients said that the car had collided with the Colombo bound Awissawella train in the early hours while heavy rains prevailed in the area at that time.

However, the signals were working at the time of the accident.

A car had been drawn by the train for several meters before the train came to a stop close to the nearby Pangiriwatta station.
