A census of population and housing is due to be held after a delay of two years.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe has issued the relevant gazette notification that the census be held for 2023 and 2024.
The Department of Census and Statistics was preparing to conduct the census in 2021, but due to the outbreak of COVID19 the census could not be held.
The last census has been carried out in 2012.
