Central Bank Governor Prof W.D. Lakshman today (10) said he will be resigning from his post on next Tuesday (14).
He said his original plan was to retire from his post with his 80th birthday next month, but due to some 'unpleasant' incidents in the recent weeks he has decided to resign.
His resignations comes in the wake of reports that State Minister Ajith Nivard Cabral was going to take up the post of Central Bank Governor after resigning from Parliament.
Prof Lakshman said he has declined an appointment at the IMF and would resume his academic pursuits.
