The Fifth Session of the Ninth Parliament is to be ceremonially opened this morning (7) by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Given the instructions of the President, arrangements have been made to hold the Ceremonial Opening of the Fifth Session as a formal ceremony and thus, gun salutes and motorcades will not be held, Parliament's Serjeant-at-Arms Kushan Jayaratne stated.
Following the ceremonial opening of today's Parliament Session, the President will present the Statement of Government Policy at 10.30am according to powers vested with him under Article 33 of the Constitution.
Parliament will also hold a two-day Adjournment Debate on the President's Statement of Government Policy tomorrow (8) and on Friday (9).

In his special statement, President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced that debt restructuring agreements will postpone all bilateral loan payments to foreign countries until 2028. Additionally, Sri Lanka will have until 2043 to repay these loans on concessional terms.
