Chairman of the Chilaw Urban Council and his brother was arrested today (12) morning over an assault incident following a dispute over riding high speed motorcycles in the area, Police said.
The Chairman has raised objections to a group who were riding the bikes on a bylane and the incident had led to a clash.
Five persons were injured in the incident.
The UC Chairman G. Abeysekara, and his brother are due to be produced in courts today. They are the sons of former UNP MP Shantha Abeysekara who was backing the SJB later.
A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
