The Request for Proposal (RFP) to select the vendor for implementing the Sri Lanka Unique Digital Identity (SLUDI) SLUDI system will be completed within this month, top officials said.
The Joint Project Management Committee (JPMC) for the project convened for the first time on June 17 to review and monitor the project's progress.
Following the meeting, Eranga Weeraratne, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, told The Sunday Times Business on Wednesday that the committee decided to issue the Request for Proposal (RFP) within this month to select the vendor for implementing the SLUDI system. He noted that the meeting was attended by representatives from the Sri Lankan government, the Indian High Commission, and other key stakeholders.
Mr. Weeraratne further stated that the launch of the Digital ID sandbox is expected within the next three to four months. This initiative will allow software developers and institutions from both the public and private sectors to engage with and assess the open digital ID platform. The sandbox is designed to demonstrate the potential of a collaborative digital identity ecosystem, encouraging innovation and improving the user experience in digital identification services.
“We aim to issue the first digital ID within a year,” Mr. Weeraratne said. (DEC)
