The National Hospital of Nephrology to treat Kidney patients in Polonnaruwa was declared open by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today (11) morning.
The hospital which is the biggest Nephrology Hospital in South Asia could provide in-house facilities for 200 patients at a time.
It has facilities of 100 transfusion beds, five state-of-the-art operating theaters, and 20 Intensive Care Unit beds.
The hospital has been constructed in a land of 16 acres at a cost of Rs 12 billion.
The hospital is a donation from the Chinese government and was constructed on a request of former President Maithripala Sirisena made to the Chinese government during a visit to China in 2015.
Former President Sirisena was among the invitees when the hospital was declared open.
Director of the Polonnaruwa Hospital, Dr Sampath Indika explained to the invitees about the facilities available at the hospital.
