The Catholic Church today rejected the report on the Easter Sunday attack compiled by former High Court Judge Jayaki de Alwis and two other members which recommends action against former police officers Ravi Seneviratne and Shani Abeysekara.
The church in a statement issued by Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said they do not believe that it is an independent report. The statement was presented by Rev Fr Cyril Gamini Fernando at a press conference today.
"We do not accept that it was an indpendent report and therefore believe there is a political motive", the Cardinal said.
The statement read out by Fr Cyril Gamini said the report was handed over to the head of the Bishops’ Conference Harold Anthony claiming that it was a confidential report and therefore they did not release the contents of the report.
