A coir factory in Madampe, has been completely destroyed by a sudden fire last night, Police said.
Local residents, police and a fire fighting unit of the Chilaw Municipal Council were trying to control the fire till today morning.
Due to the fire, the machinery in the factory and a large amount of coir packed ready for export were destroyed.
The cause of the fire and estimated damages were not known immediately.
No loss of life or injuries has been reported due to the fire, Madampe Police say.
Another coir factory in Madampe was destroyed by fire last week.
