The Colombo High Court today (01) recalled the warrant against former Minister Johnston Fernando, who failed to appear in a bribery case filed by the Bribery Commission, and released him on additional bail.
The case, heard by Judge Manjula Thilakaratne, involved Fernando’s absence on October 23, when he was giving a statement to the CID regarding an unregistered luxury car allegedly linked to him.
Despite the defense’s explanation, the judge granted additional bail, setting a cash bail of Rs. 25,000 and a personal surety of Rs. 1 million.
The case, involving allegations of misuse of Lanka Sathosa employees for political work between 2010 and 2014, resulting in a Rs. 40 million loss, has been adjourned to January 27.
