Colombo Fort recorded the highest rainfall of close to 100mm during the past 24 hours, the Meteorology Department said.
The Department said afternoon showers and thundershowers will continue today(08) as well with heavy rainfall (above 75mm) in most areas .
Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-western and Uva provinces are to experience heavy rainfall while Northern and Eastern provinces will have a few rains during morning.
Public is requested to take precautions to minimise damages from strong winds and lightning during rainfall. One person was injured and two vehicles damaged when a tree on R.A. De Mel Mawatha, Kollupitiya fell on top of the vehicles last evening.
The National Building Research Organization extended its landslide level 2 warning to a number of areas in Badulla, Ratnapura and Kandy district.
Haldumulla police instructed motorists to use alternative routes on the Colombo-Badulla road near Bathgoda landslide. Authorities advise the public to avoid Beragala, Haputale areas due to multiple landslides being reported.
The Disaster Management Centre said landslides, rockfalls, flash floods and heavy rainfall has resulted in over 700 people temporarily relocated to safety shelters.
