The Ministerial Consultative Committee on Wildlife and Forest conservation had approved the second reading of the Fauna and Flora Protection (Amendment) Bill at the parliament.
The Committee meeting which was held under the chairmanship of Minister Wildlife & Forest Conservation C.B Ratnayake and State Minister of Wildlife protection Wimalaweera Dissanayake .
Minister Ratnayake said that the amendment Bill will be introduced in Parliament today. He added that the Bill empowers the Minister to make orders to enforce the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
Secretary to the Ministry of Wildlife & Forest Conservation Somarathna Vidanapathirana, said that this amendment, which also takes into account the GSP concession, has been under discussion for nearly 15 years and was finally able to come into force.
