Couple offering CEB jobs for money arrested

Police have opened an investigation into complaints of a couple offering jobs in  the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for money claiming to have top connections with Board officials.

A  couple, who committed money fraud, claiming to offer jobs in the electricity board, have been arrested by the Thalangama Police on  Friday (November 11). 

The complaint was lodged by a woman who had deposited Rs. 768,300 in the bank account of the suspect woman of the couple after a series of calls exchanged between them, from March 2022.  

The suspects had promised to offer a job at the electricity board, claiming to know a superior in the Board, but the promised job was not offered and the woman had lodged a complaint. 

The arrested couple are residents of Thalangama South area, the husband aged 33 and the wife aged 27. 

The Thalangama Police received eight complaints regarding the same couple, which had been redirected to the respective Police stations. The Police expect more complaints to be lodged. 

The couple is to be produced to the Kaduwela Magistrate Court on Saturday, while the Thalangama Police are conducting further investigation.
