The Court of Appeal has upheld a prison sentence imposed on former Deputy Minister Shantha Premaratne who had been found guilty of accepting a bribe of Rs. 50, 000.
The ex-deputy minister was found guilty by the Colombo High Court in 2017 for obtaining the bribe in 2007 from a woman after promising to get her a job at the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
The High Court sentenced him to four years rigorous imprisonment and this was upheld by the Court of Appeal today.
