Jaffna MP Archchuna released on bail
Jaffna District MP Ramanathan Archchuna, who was arrested after surrendering to the Fort Police, was released on bail by the Colombo For Magistrate's Court. A warrant had been issued for the MP's arrest for failing to appear in court for the hearing of a case filed against him for alleged obstruction of police duties.
Sampath Manamperi produced before Walasmulla Court
Former SLPP member Sampath Manamperi was produced before the Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court. He is currently in the custody of the Police Western Province North Crimes Division on charges of concealing two containers of raw materials allegedly used in the production of the drug crystal methamphetamine (ICE) and possession of weapons.
Public cautioned about water bodies
Consultant Community Physician Dr. Samitha Sirithunga has asked the general public to exercise caution when using unknown water bodies during the festive season as the conditions and stability of water sources have changed due to recent adverse weather conditions.
CID arrests ‘Kudu Roshan’
The police said a team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested notorious underworld figure ‘Kudu Roshan’ at his residence in Mattakkuliya with a 9mm pistol and three live rounds of ammunition.
The United States has told Sri Lanka that the disposition of the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Bushehr and its crew is a matter for Colombo to resolve under its own laws and international obligations, while signalling it is in active talks with Sri Lanka to contain Iran’s threat to US interests.
