The Colombo District Court today refused to issue an injunction preventing the implementation of a Sri Lanka Freedom Party decision to suspend General Secretary MP Dayasiri Jayasekara from the party.
However the newly appointed General Secretary of the Party Sarath Ekanayake also cannot function in the post, the Courts held.
The decision was delivered by Colombo District Judge Sandun Vithanage, after considering a petition filed Mr Jayasekara challenging the decision.
Mr Jayasekara was suspended from the party on Tuesday, hours after he had a meeting with Mr Sirisena.
Mr Sirisena told the media that Mr Jayasekara was suspended for violating the party constitution, but decline to elaborate.
However, other party sources said that the return of some of the senior members including Minister Mahinda Amaraweera and Nimal Siripala de Silva and proposed changes in the party were linked to the removal of Mr Jayasekara.
